Growing up, Capt. Marty didn't get the chance to play or watch many sports other than NASCAR. As a young mate at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, Capt. Marty took a group offshore from the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team and was given the opportunity to go see them play in Washington DC.
